Who We Serve
Who is Unison Care best suited for?
Unison Care is best suited for seniors who:
-
Are independently mobile and able to bear weight safely
-
Require assistance with foot care or personal hygiene
-
Benefit from calm, structured, one-on-one care
-
Live in private homes, condominiums, retirement residences, long-term care facilities, or hospitals (short-term check-ins)
When care needs exceed our scope, we assist families with guidance toward appropriate higher-acuity care providers.
Do you serve seniors living with dementia?
Yes. Unison Care provides dementia-informed personal care services for seniors living with mild to advanced dementia, as long as the client remains able to bear weight and walk safely.
Extended time blocks are reserved when needed to allow for reassurance, redirection, and a calm pace of care.
Caregivers & Qualifications
Are caregivers trained and experienced in personal care?
Yes. Care is provided by certified PABs (Préposé(e)s aux bénéficiaires) or experienced caregivers with a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in personal care settings.
New caregivers complete orientation and supervised shadowing before working independently. The length of this period is determined by prior experience and demonstrated competency.
How are caregivers supervised?
Caregivers work under ongoing oversight to ensure care standards are consistently met.
The owner of Unison Care is a certified PAB and remains actively involved in care oversight and quality assurance.
Will the same caregiver come each visit?
Whenever possible, caregiver consistency is prioritized to support comfort, familiarity, and trust—particularly for personal and dementia-related care.
If a change is required, transitions are handled thoughtfully and communicated in advance whenever possible.
Do caregivers undergo background checks?
Yes. Background screening is part of the hiring process for all caregivers.
Are services available in French?
Yes. Services are available in both French and English.
Services & Scheduling
What services are provided during a visit?
Services depend on the visit type and may include:
-
Mobile foot care (nail trimming, skin care, hygiene)
-
Supervised bathing or shower assistance
-
Hair wash and drying
-
Hand care and basic foot hygiene
-
Dressing assistance
-
Bathroom clean-up
-
Wellness observation and safety checks (check-in visits)
Each visit is structured and focused on its intended purpose.
How long are visits?
Visit lengths are fixed and scheduled in advance:
-
Mobile Foot Care: 90-minute initial visit, 60-minute maintenance visits

-
Dementia-Supported Hygiene Visits: 2 hours
-
Quick Check-In Visits: 30 minutes
Unison Care does not offer open-ended or hourly block scheduling.
Do you offer extended or open-ended visits?
No. Unison Care operates on a structured visit model.
Families requiring extended hourly care or ongoing companionship are best supported by a traditional home care agency.
What happens if care is refused?
Refusal can be a normal part of dementia-related care.
All visits are approached with patience, reassurance, and gentle redirection. If care is ultimately declined, the reserved time block remains billable due to travel, professional effort, and the commitment required to hold the scheduled appointment.
Do you work on holidays?
Holiday visits may be available upon request, subject to caregiver availability.
If provided, holiday visits are billed at twice the regular visit rate. For clients on annual packages, an additional holiday surcharge applies.
Appointments & Transportation
Do you accompany clients to medical appointments?
No. Unison Care does not provide transportation or accompaniment to external appointments.
For residents of the West Island of Montreal, ABOVAS offers free community transportation services:
